In each performance, the Tchaikovsky National Ballet’s main goal is to preserve the traditions and essence of pure classical ballet, turning them into a celebration for the senses with the charm of its costumes and the visual splendor of its set designs; creating a fascinating balance with the perfection of its lines and the elegance of its choreography.
This ballet, one of Tchaikovsky’s most well-known works featuring the original choreography by Lev Ivanov, is a Christmas tale that speaks of longing for a lost childhood and the contrast between the adult world and children’s dream world.
The libretto is by Marius Petipa and is based on a text by Alexandre Dumas, which in turn was inspired by E.T.A. Hoffmann’s famous story The Nutcracker and the Mouse King.
Innocence, inner beauty, and bravery are the core themes of The Nutcracker a fantasy brought to life by the Tchaikovsky National Ballet, delighting and entertaining all those who still believe in magic.
