Il Trovatore es una ópera romántica en cuatro actos, música de Giuseppe Verdi (Bussetto, 1813 – Milán, 1901), y libreto de Salvatore Cammarano, completado por Leone Emanuele Bardere y basado en el drama homónimo del dramaturgo español Antonio García Gutiérrez. En Il trovatore dos acciones principales se entrecruzan en un duelo a espada: el lance vengativo de la Gitana y el amor de Manrico, que, arrastra consigo al conde de Luna y a Leonora. A partir de ahí, la obra es un prodigio de lírico desorden teñido de amor filial, causa política, perjurios, sacrilegios, sacrificio del amor a Dios, muerte del amor mismo y venganza.
